Smile Through Sport
Daybreak is a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities
On Wednesday 6th May 2015, our people from Daybreak's Montagu Hub, Newcastle, went to Newburn Leisure Centre to attend a launch event for SMILE Through Sport, which is a company founded by Paralympian, Stephen Miller. SMILE Through Sport provides opportunities for disabled individuals to participate and get involved in all avenues of disability sport.
Steven P, Steven L, Stephen B, Greg, Yvonne, Paul, Robert T, Robert C, Andrew, Stephen, Kevin and Neville took part. This session was supported by Life Skills Instructors, Stephen and Nikki, as well as Jenny and Rachel from SMILE.
The group learnt how to pass the ball to their partner, how to keep a volleyball in the air, and played various throwing games with beanbags.
Some quotes from our people;
Andew - "I enjoy throwing the beanbags to get the highest amount"
Stephen - "I enjoyed going around the cones"
Daybreak are hoping that SMILE can come to Daybreak and deliver some sessions. Our people really enjoyed playing the games and getting fit. Life Skills Instructor Nikki, Said "It was lovely trying new activities and to hear about what SMILE does"
