Football star scores winning goal
Daybreak client is triumphant at a regional football tournament
Beamish Football Club saw off several other teams to claim victory at the all-day event, held at the end of June in Middlesbrough. Each team played five matches, with Beamish FC victorious after a tense penalty shootout in the final. Anthony’s shot blasted into the right hand side of goal, with the keeper going the other way. After scoring the winning penalty, Anthony was ecstatic to win an individual medal for his efforts. He said: “It was a really good feeling – and also a canny day out.” Anthony, who used to play for South Tyneside, trains with Beamish every Tuesday near Consett. As a Newcastle United supporter, he has played football all his life and his preferred position is upfront or on the wing. Last year he ventured to Belgium for a tournament which also saw him scoring the winning goal.
In September, he will be taking part in a sponsored charity match, pitting Dads Vs Sons.
Anthony said: “My stepdad is a canny good player and I am looking forward to playing against him – it will be a good day.”
