Daybreak Inclusion Awards

"Going the extra mile"

Daybreak Inclusion Awards

The Daybreak Inclusion Awards were held on the 29th September at The Discovery Museum in Newcastle.

The Inclusion Awards were created to recognise and celebrate people in North East businesses who have "gone the extra mile" for those with a learning disability.

With around 200 people in attendance, it promised to be a special day filled with inspiring stories for all to see and hear.

We asked all our members to nominate a business or organisation, that shares our vision and has supported them to feel included.

We had over 40 nominations from our members, which shows you how much people are doing to support those with additional needs!

An independent panel made the difficult decision of selecting the winners, who were presented with a Daybreak Inclusion Award.

The Daybreak Inclusion Award winners-

Costa Coffee, St James Retail Park

Marks and Spencer, Cramlington and Morpeth

Odeon Cinema, Metro Centre

Sage Cafe, Gateshead

Horby, Fenwicks Toy Department, Newcastle

We also celebrated all the nominated businesses by giving them a unique Daybreak Incluson Award certificate. This shows that they "go the extra mile" to support people with additional needs.

During the ceremony, we also celebrated the achievements made by our members and staff at Daybreak.

These awards were given to people who really embody our vision and values, and have worked extremely hard to achieve a personal or professional goal.

Our special guests of the afternoon, Metro Radio's Steve and Karen, presented the Inclusion Award for Daybreak Members.

Each of the winners received cinema tickets, kindly donated by Odeon Cinema at the Metro Centre, and had their photo taken with Steve and Karen.

Yvonne said "Im so happy and proud that i won, it was great getting my picture taken with Steve and Karen!"

Daybreak Chair of Trustees, Dai Bryson, presented the winners of The Inclusion Awards for Staff. The winners were given a gift and short speech about the tremendous work they have accomplished this year.

To celebrate the day, we invited a wide variety of businesses to come and showcase their products or services in our own "Market Place".

People had the chance to try make-up on,get their nails done or look at some of the products produced by our own members of Daybreak.

A massive thank you to everyone that came to the ceremony and a big thank you to all the organisations that came and displayed in our market place.

We hope everyone who attended the event had a great time, and has been inspired to do more for people with disabilities-you never know, this time next year you might be winning a Daybreak Inclusion Award!

Thank you to the event sponsors Northumbria Water Living, Vida Design and SMILE Through Sport.
